Zamboanga City Gears up For “Zamboanga Hermosa Festival” - Starts October 12

Zamboanga City is in its festive mood as preparations for the grandest festival in Zamboanga - the “Zamboanga Hermosa Festival,” is now being undertaken.

The month-long festivity is in honor of the city’s Patron saint Nuestra Señora La Virgen Del Pilar, whose feast day is on October 12.

City Mayor Celso Lobregat convened concerned offices and agencies of government including the police and the military to look into the details with regards to the various activities lined up for the celebration.

A committee that will work on the preparations, planning and budgetting was formally created by the city thru Executive Order No. CL-418-2011 with City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr. as chair and City Tourism Officer Sarita Hernandez as co-chair.

City Information Officer Sheila Covarrubias said the committee was created to ensure a more vibrant, colorful and successful fiesta celebration.

The annual Zamboanga Hermosa Festival is one event in Zamboanga that is being attended not only by the catholic devotees here but also visitors from neighboring cities and regions and even other countries visit Zamboanga to witness and be part of the celebration.

Although the actual feast day is on October 12, activities however will be a month long affair starting the first day of October.

This year’s fiesta celebration is anchored on the theme: “Vamos a Zamboanga,” stressing the city’s goal to promote Zamboanga as a tourist and investment destination in this part of the country. (Jocelyn Alvarez/JPA/PIA 9-Zambo City)
