After breaking traditional Charter Day activities last year, the 2nd Tugob Festival will once again highlight the 64th Charter Day celebration in Ormoc, Leyte on October 20.
As in last year’s festival, the participants in the second staging of the Tugob Festival will be coming from local schools, Vice Mayor Nepomuceno P. Aparis said. The Vice Mayor added that the number of participants and presentations will also be presented during the occasion.
The First Pasalamat Tugob Festival was organized by the city government through the Ormoc Builders Association (ORBA) for the city’s 63rd Ormoc Charter Day last year.
The Tugob Festival was conceptualized as a festival of Ormoc’s abundant resources. Eleven resources were identified namely: steam, water, pineapple, sugarcane, cassava, fish, livestock, coconut, vegetables, rice, and even sand and gravel.
The word “TUGOB” is a Visayan term for abundance. The festival will feature the different abundant resources of Ormoc, which are factors in the progress and development of the city - the geothermal power source, queen pineapple, rice, vegetables, coconut, cassava, water, fish and others.
One of the main features of the festival will be the street dancing which will feature the different products of the locality.
Aside from the Tugob Festival, the City Government led by Mayor Eric Codilla, has lined up several activities for the 64th Charter Day celebration, Vice Mayor Aparis disclosed.
Among others, there will be gun sport fest sponsored by the YMCA, skate boarding from local skate enthusiasts, and soccer events from the Ormoc Soccer Aficionado groups.
The Ormoc Garden Club will also present a garden show, while the City Agriculture and Services Office will also hold an Aqua and Agriculture Trade wherein a contest in landscaping and booth exhibits will also be featured.
Another highlight in the coming Charter Day celebration is the sky diving activity by the Cebu Parachuters Club where the participants will land at the city plaza. (PIA 8)
