Metro Manila, or the National Capital Region (NCR) is made up of 17 cities and municipalities that constitute the capital of the Philippines. Manila itself is only one of these 17 cities and it is situated in the western area of the National Capital Region, bordering Manila Bay to the east, and on the western coast of the island of Luzon.

Manila is at the heart of a burgeoning urban area that contains approximately 20 million people. It is one of the world's mega-cities and without a doubt, one of the world's most densely populated cities.

The tourist belt is in the area of Ermita. There are numerous hotels in the area that range from high-end to low cost pension houses. Malate is also nearby with many restaurants and bars to choose from.

Cebu City is in the middle of an urban area called Metro Cebu, which is composed of the cities of Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu and Talisay. The entire metropolitan area contains a population of about 2 million people.

Across Mactan Strait to the east is Mactan Island, where the Mactan-Cebu International Airport is located, and also Lapu-Lapu City. The cities of Mandaue, Consolacion, and Danao are to the north. Toledo City, the towns of Balamban and Asturias are to the west. Talisay City and the town of Minglanilla are due south.

Downtown Cebu is characterized by the shopping street of Colon. The hustle, the bustle, the crowds, the smells, it's all there for you to experience. Or, if you prefer uptown, there is Ayala Center shopping mall at Cebu Business Park, and also SM City Shopping Mall near the port area.
