Summer Festival of Lights - Sillag

The Poro Point Management Corporation (PPMC) will launch on April 28 the Poro Point Festival of Lights, an annual summer festival dubbed “Sillag” inside the Poro Point Freeport Zone (PPFZ).

Sillag is an Ilocano word which means moonbeam or illumination from the moon.

President and Chief Executive Officer Florante S. Gerlan said the festival focuses on the historic Poro Point Lighthouse which is being promoted as an integral component of the tourism development inside the PPFZ.

The festival aims to attract foreign and domestic tourists to create a mass market and encourage business and commerce in the PPFZ and the rest of the municipalities of the Province of La Union.

The activities of the festival include a Fluvial Parade which will be the highlight of the festival. The parade will feature illuminated and decorated boats from participating government agencies, business firms and various organizations. The boats will sail from the beach areas of Barangay Pagudpud to Thunderbird Resorts.

After the fluvial parade, Hope lanterns will be released and sold to government agencies, business firms, schools, various groups and organizations as well as individuals . The Hope Lanterns will cost P1,000 per piece for groups and organizations and P100 for individuals. Proceeds will go to the beneficiaries of PPMC’s Corporate Social Responsibility Program, PPMC HELPS. HELPS stands for the various components of the program (Health, Education and Environment, Livelihood program including employment opportunities within the Zone, and Strengthening Linkages.

The Festival is initiated by The Poro Point Management Corporation, a member of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) Group. (ANL/ANR- PIA 1 La Union/PPMC)
