European Group Looking To Put Up Retirement Facility in Negros Oriental, PhilippinesOfficials from the European Chamber of Commerce (ECC) in the Philippines are eyeing to establish a retirement facility in Valencia, Negros Oriental, Philippines, for foreigner retirees. According to Alfonso Alba, assistant manager and business development officer of the European Chamber of Commerce, in a statement said that they find Valencia to be an ideal site for a retirement area for not only European retirees but also Japanese, Koreans, and Americans, among others. Alba together with two German consultants Manfred Klein and Marc Daubenbuechel recently met with Valencia Mayor Rodolfo Gonzalez and other local officials for initial talks on the said business venture, said Des Tilos, Valencia information officer. Also present in the said meeting were Gov. Emilio C. Macias II, Edward Du of the Negros Oriental Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Provincial Engineer Susano Ruperto. Tilos said the ECC officials admired the municipal government's programs especially the LGU's efforts to prime itself for big investment ventures and retirement facilities. Alba said Valencia has a big potential for retirement area development in view of its proximity to educational institutions, medical facilities and the commercial center of Dumaguete City. For his part, Mayor Gonzalez said he welcomes investments and retirees as this is one of his administration's goals for Valencia. As of now, a Norwegian company that fabricates underwater spare parts is setting up a plant in Valencia and it reportedly will employ hundreds of wielders, added Tilos.
